about

Working Title: 'Knock It Out the Park'
“This working title came about when Martin (drums) had asked on a group chat if we had one or two practices left to get this song ready to play it live for the first time. I said we had one practice left, to which he replied that we better “knock it out the park tonight, then”, and it has been called that for the past two years until we finally named it properly! We decided on the title ‘This Is Your Captain Speaking’ as the lyrics are like an announcement of internal realisations and definitive statements. The lyrics reflect the pull between looking back to younger, freer and less complicated times with less responsibilities, while also being aware of the benefits of being older, wiser and more able to cope with the challenges of life.”

lyrics

Take your old demeanour and go
Because without information we are nothing
Without information we are nothing
Without information we are nothing but machinations
So take your old demeanour
So take your old demeanour and go
Well I don’t know what to do to be how I used to be me
And I miss my old self
I need my old friends
I want my old life
Oh how the dead sleep
Infinite but indefinite
You feel the calmness land, right down to your feet on the floor
Where altruists and alchemists align
To stratigraph your aphorisms
I’m initiating expiations
Because without inspiration we are nothing but machinations
And I miss my old self
I need my old friends
I want my old life
Because without information we are nothing
Without information we are nothing
Without information we are nothing but machinations
